The rapid growth of online purchasing is making it more important than ever to safeguard credit and check card usage. To help combat the problem, Visa has created "Verified by Visa," a program that verifies that the true card owner is the one using their credit or check card for a particular online purchase.
University Credit Union members will be able to register their UCU Visa Check Cards in the Verified by Visa program. In fact, many financial institutions that offer Visa check cards or credit cards will participate.
Once Verified by Visa is ready, it will only take a few minutes to register and create a password for your card. Registering your card is the important part. After you register, no one but you should be able to make purchases at online merchants that also utilize Verified by Visa.
A quick and simple verification occurs during a purchase phase of a transaction at a participating merchant. During the purchase phase, you will be prompted to enter your password to verify your card (see How it works, below, for more information). Once verified, your transaction will continue. If a card can't be verified with the password, then the transaction will not continue.
If you make purchases online, take the time now to register your card and protect your card's security.
How it works
Your Verified by Visa password helps ensure that only you can use your Visa card number to buy online. Look for more information in early-May to register your University Credit Union Visa Check Card.

This is the process of how Verified by Visa protects you while shopping online.

Once your card is activated, your card number will be recognized whenever you purchase at participating online stores. You'll enter your password in the Verified by Visa window, your identity will be verified, and the transaction will be completed. In stores that are not yet participating in Verified by Visa, your Visa card will continue to work as usual.
Look for the Verified by Visa symbol displayed at many participating stores.
