University Credit Union (UCU) Text Message (SMS) Terms and Conditions

 

Definition

 

In this Text Message (SMS) Terms and Conditions, the words “you”, “your”, and “yours” mean any individual using the text/messaging services. The words “we”, “us”, “our” and “Credit Union” mean University Credit Union.

 

Agreement

 

University Credit Union’s text messages (SMS) are intended to provide informational and transactional information regarding our products and services. By providing your cell phone number as part of the member application process and agreeing to the University Credit Union membership agreement, you have provided us with consent to send you test messages in conjunction with the services we provide. We will not send you marketing messages unless you separately affirmatively opt-in to receiving such messages, as further discussed in these Terms and Conditions. Your cellular provider’s message & data Rates may apply.

 

The Credit Union’s text messages do not replace your monthly account statement(s), which is the official record of your accounts. Messages not be encrypted and at some point, may include personal or confidential information about you, such as your account activity or status. You agree to protect your communications device that receives information through text and not to let any unauthorized person have access to the information we provide to you through these messages. You are solely responsible for the security of your communications device and the information contained on it. You should consider deleting any text message that contains your personal or confidential information to limit the potential for unauthorized access to your personal or confidential information. 

 

The Credit Union may sed you text messages containing HTTPS links. These links will open University Credit Union’s website in your phone’s mobile browser. Always verify the spelling of the website before you open any link to our website.

 

Examples of Informational and Transactional Messages

 

UCU Alert: Your loan account requires immediate attention. Please visit our Resource Center to review available debt and loan management options: [URL]. You may also contact us directly at [PHONE]. Reply STOP to opt out.

 

UCU Notice: We have identified an issue requiring attention regarding your loan account. Visit our Resource Center at [URL] or call [PHONE] to discuss available options. Reply STOP to opt out.

 

UCU Important Account Notification: Your loan account status requires review. Please visit [URL] for debt and loan management resources or contact UCU at [PHONE]. Reply STOP to opt out.

Text Message (SMS) Frequency

 

The number of text messages you receive will vary depending on which Credit Union text messaging programs you are enrolled in based on your active products and services and the frequency of the messages sent by those programs.

 

If you have opted to receive marketing messages, we will not send you more than ten (10) text messages containing special offers or promoting Credit Union products per month.

 

How to Opt-In

 

By providing your cell phone number as part of the member application process and agreeing to the University Credit Union membership agreement, you have provided us with consent to send you text messages in conjunction with the services we provide. We may ask you to reply in the affirmative in the manner indicated in an initial text message (e.g., Y or Yes, Start). 

 

How to Opt-Out

 

If you wish to stop receiving text messages, reply to any text message we have sent you and in the reply imply text/type STOP. Your stop request will become effective within 3 business days. You may also stop text messages by calling 800.UCU.4510 or emailing ucumail@ucu.org. However, call and email methods are only applicable once a text is initiated from us and may require more time to take effect.

 

Fees

 

We do not charge or impose a fee of any kind for your access to or use of text messaging. However, you are responsible for any and all charges, including, but not limited to, fees otherwise applicable to your account(s) and fees associated with text messaging imposed by your communications service provider. Standard message and data charges may apply to each text sent or received (please contact your mobile communication service provider for pricing plans). 

 

Changes to Terms and Conditions

 

University Credit Union may revise, modify, or amend these Text Message (SMS) Terms and Conditions at any time, without notice, except as required by law. Any revision, modification, or amendment shall be effective when it is posted to our website (https://www.ucu.org/disclosures). You agree to review these Text Messaging Terms and Conditions periodically to ensure that you are aware of any changes. Your continued use of a Credit Union text messaging service after the Terms and Conditions have changed shall constitute your acceptance of those changes. 

 

Termination of Text Messaging

 

We may suspend or terminate your receipt of Credit Union text messages if we believe you breach these Text Message (SMS) Terms and Conditions or your Membership Agreement. Your receipt of Credit Union text messages is also subject to termination should your mobile telephone service terminate or lapse. We reserve the right to modify or discontinue all or any part of our text messages, with or without notice. We may cancel, restrict the use of or interrupt your free subscription to any and all Credit Union text messaging services or terminate any and all Credit Union text messaging services at any time, without notice to you.

 

Security

 

Text messages to the Credit Union numbers are not encrypted. Please do not send us sensitive or non-public personal information to the Credit Union in a text message. No representative of the Credit Union will ever ask you to do this. If you receive a text message purported to be from the Credit Union that requests you send a text with sensitive or non-public personal information, please do not respond to it. Instead, you must notify us immediately by telephone at 800.UCU.4510.

 

Disputes

 

You agree that any action, dispute, claim, or controversy of any nature between you and the Credit Union arising from or related to the Credit Union’s text messaging service will be subject to and resolved in accordance with the terms of the Credit Union’s Membership Agreement or Business Membership Agreement.

 

Privacy

 

The information (phone numbers) obtained as part of the membership and text messaging agreement process will not be shared with third parties for marketing purposes. Your consent to receive text messages will also never be shared or sold to any third party or affiliates for marketing purposes. University Credit Union values your privacy.
