Frequently asked questions
- What's the difference between Money Market Plus and Money Market Advantage?
Both accounts are money market accounts that pay monthly dividends and offer an alternative to a High Yield Savings account. The primary difference is how you qualify for the best rates.
Money Market Plus
- Rewards members who actively use a UCU checking account.
- Requires a UCU checking account and at least $1,000 in qualifying monthly deposits to earn relationship rates.
- Offers higher rates for larger balances when qualification requirements are met.
Money Market Advantage
- Does not require a checking account or direct deposit.
- Uses a reverse-tier rate structure designed to reward members building their savings.
- Offers its highest rates on lower balance tiers.
- Which account is right for me?
Money Market Plus may be a better fit if you:

- Which account offers the highest potential earnings?
That depends on your banking relationship and balance.
Members with larger balances who actively use a UCU checking account and receive qualifying monthly deposits may benefit most from Money Market Plus.
Members focused on building savings balances without checking account requirements may benefit from Money Market Advantage. - Why is UCU offering two different money market accounts?
Every saver's needs are different. Money Market Plus rewards members who use UCU as their primary financial institution and maintain qualifying deposit activity, while Money Market Advantage is designed for members who want to grow their savings without checking account requirements. Together, these options allow members to choose the account that best matches their financial habits and savings goals.
*APY = Annual Percentage Yield. Rates effective 08/01/2026 and subject to change before or after account opening without notice. Money Market Plus is a variable-rate account. Rates vary by balance tier, apply to the entire account balance, and are contingent upon meeting the checking account requirements described below. Rates are accurate as of the last dividend declaration date. Click here for Money Market Plus detailed disclosures.
1Minimum opening deposit is $1,000. Fees may reduce earnings. Dividends are calculated daily, compounded monthly, and paid monthly.
2To earn the advertised dividend rate and APY, members must: Maintain an active University Credit Union (UCU) checking account under the same member number; and receive Qualifying Deposits totaling at least $1,000 during each calendar month. Qualifying Deposits include direct deposits, ACH credits, Zelle, Venmo and PayPal transfers, cash and check deposits, and incoming wire transfers. Transfers between UCU accounts under common ownership, chargebacks, and UCU promotional incentive payments do not qualify. If these requirements are not met during a calendar month, the account will earn the default dividend rate and corresponding APY in effect for that month (currently 0.05% APY). Members who meet the requirements will earn the dividend rate and APY applicable to their balance tier. The dividend rate and APY for the applicable balance tier will be paid on the entire account balance. All rates and terms are subject to change without notice. Refer to the Schedule of Fees and Charges for additional information. For complete account details, including limitations, see the Money Market Plus Account Overview and applicable account agreements.
