Dear Member-Owners,
This past quarter brought a significant change for our credit union. After some eight years of dedicated leadership, David Tuyo stepped away from his role as CEO of University Credit Union (UCU). David was a big part of our organization, and many of you knew him well. We’re grateful for the contributions he made to UCU and wish him continued success as he moves on to his next chapter.
With this change, I’ve stepped into the role of Interim CEO. My name is Estela Nagahashi, and I’ve been with UCU for more than seven years, most recently as EVP, Chief Operating Officer. I’ve worked in the financial services industry for close to 30 years and I’ve come to believe deeply in the power of financial guidance, especially when it’s built on a foundation of service and purpose. I am proud to lead an organization that puts people first, helping members make confident and informed financial decisions every day.
Though this change is new, our commitment to you stays the same. Every member will continue to receive the same, reliable, member-first service, backed by a team of certified financial experts that are dedicated to supporting your goals.
We also recently welcomed a new Chief Financial Officer, Jeremy Calva. With 25 years in the financial services industry, Jeremy brings valuable experience and depth to our leadership team. He specializes in strategic planning, financial management, and risk mitigation, but more than that, he brings a thoughtful, steady approach that fits perfectly with our values and purpose.
Another major milestone this quarter was the grand opening of our first banking hub in Texas, at Abilene Christian University (ACU). This is a proud moment for the UCU and University Community, and a meaningful step forward as we expand our reach and welcome new members to our credit union. Our grand opening week was a true community celebration, with local food trucks, music, games, raffles, and genuine connection with members of the ACU community and Abilene locals. It was an energizing week, and we’re proud to be serving members in Texas with the same care and loyalty you expect from UCU.
While this is a time of transition, I see it as an opportunity. We’re taking time to reflect on who we are, where we’re headed, and how we can better support you along the way. I’m honored to be a part of the process and excited for what’s ahead.
Sincerely,
Estela Nagahashi
Interim Chief Executive Officer
